CIS Recognized in President Obama's Speech
03/03/2010: In his speech, President Obama referred to the dropout epidemic as a problem too severe to accept and too important to ignore, and called on parents, students, educators, business and elected leaders to come together to end the crisis. Further, the President committed to providing funding to ensure high schools are not just pushing students to graduate, but making sure they are graduating ready for college and life.

CIS of Central Texas matches students with caring adult mentors. These unique relationships foster self reliance and confidence, empowering students to achieve their full potential.

A safe place to learn and grow

CIS of Central Texas offers an afterschool and summer haven for hundreds of at-risk students. Caseworkers and volunteers offer homework help, a hot meal and lots of caring interaction on 6 public housing sites.

A healthy start and a healthy future

CIS of Central of Central Texas breaks the cycle of family illiteracy and poverty. Parents are given training and tools to nurture their child’s literacy, cultivate a love for learning at an early age, and to advocate for the best education for their child.

A marketable skill to use upon graduation

CIS of Central Texas matches students with dozens of local employers. CIS students actively explore potential careers by visiting  high-tech companies, healthcare providers, media outlets, as well as many other workplaces.

A chance to give back to peers and community

CIS of Central Texas’ XY-Zone guides adolescent males as they journey into manhood. Teens are encouraged to give back to their communities through volunteerism and community service, inspiring them to graduate and become future community leaders.
